Discord integration on PS5 is about to get better, as Sony announced today that it’s rolling out an update that will allow PS5 users to join Discord calls directly on the console.
Sony and Discord announced the app’s integration with PS5 last year, but prior to today’s announcement, users who wanted to join a Discord conversation from their PS5 had to manually transfer the call to their console using the Discord app on their mobile device or computer. This up-to-date update now streamlines the process as it only requires a PS5 console rather than two devices.

New Post on the PlayStation Blog notes that the update will be “rolled out gradually over the coming weeks,” with PS5 owners in Japan/Asia gaining access to the feature first, and those in Europe, Australia/New Zealand, the Middle East, and the Americas receiving the update in this order.
In addition to PS5 integration, Discord has also partnered with Microsoft to offer Discord in a variety of ways on Xbox gaming hardware. The partnership began in 2022. More recently, in August 2023, Microsoft announced that the partnership had expanded to allow Xbox users to stream Xbox games directly to Discord.
Discord improving the PS5 experience comes less than a month after the company announced it wanted to shift its focus from the all-in-one messaging app to focusing on its gaming-centric roots, whether or not gamers operate it as a form of communication , whether developers operate the application as an additional communication tool with players.
