At the end of last week, we published a public survey asking Press square readers to think about Ghost of Yotei and whether it is actually a better game than its predecessor, Ghost of Tsushima.

Nearly 10,000 users took part in our survey, making it one of the largest we have ever conducted on the site. With this in mind, the results become even more intriguing…

Overall, opinions seem quite divided. 32% of readers said they liked Yotei more than Tsushima, and 45% preferred Tsushima to Yotei. The remaining 23% said they couldn’t decide between them.

However, things get much more complicated when we divide both titles into two separate elements: gameplay and story.

When it comes to gameplay, Yotei is the clear winner, with a whopping 82% of users saying the sequel is an improvement over Tsushima. 23% believe the gameplay is better “in every way”, while only 7% believe it is actually a “step backwards” from its predecessor.

However, when it comes to history, opinions are completely different, with Tsushima receiving the most support.

58% said Jin’s initial adventure tells a better story, and a whopping 30% of users say the first game’s narrative is “much better.” Just 9% of readers said Yotei had a “much better” story.

And finally, there was a final showdown between the heroes of both games. In the head-to-head poll between Atsu and Jin, Tsushima’s lead dominated the vote.

The disgraced samurai was considered the better main character by as many as 71% of readers.

Intriguing stuff considering how fresh Ghost of Yotei is currently. We’d be really interested to see if these opinions change in the coming months and years.
