We’ve come a long way from the days when PC components simply had to be functional, able to do their job with minimal fuss; now they have to look good. And if you’re looking for a graphics card to complement your awesome Razer Quartz peripherals, I’ve got some good news for you.
This Galax RTX 4070 EX Gamer Pink is on sale for $515 on Amazon for Labor Day. Well, I don’t know if that’s exactly Down Labor Day deals, it’s probably just a coincidence and you’ll be able to snag the same discount tomorrow. But it’s still the cheapest you’ll find at retail on Nvidia’s mid-range Ada Lovelace GPU.
Yes, it’s been replaced by the RTX 4070 Super, but that only offers a little more gaming performance and is a full $60 more costly at the low end. More sedate competition for the elderly RTX 4070 is AMD’s impressive Radeon RX 7800 XT, which can outperform GeForce GPUs in some pure raster games. It’s also a bit cheaper today, the cheapest we could find coming in at $480.
But AMD’s card suffers when it comes to ray tracing in games, significantly limiting its relative frame rate performance in titles that rely on super-shiny lighting effects. Nvidia also has a more mature ecosystem around its RTX cards, with low-latency gaming features and, more importantly, DLSS scaling goodness. That also includes Ray Reconstruction for improved ray tracing fidelity and the power of Frame Generation, which delivers free frames. Performance, for free. What a world.
Sure, AMD has its own version of frame generation, but it’s not nearly as effective, and given that pricing is much more similar compared to when the RX 7800 XT first hit the market, I’d probably be more tempted to go with the RTX 4070 right now. Even with the 16GB vs. 12GB VRAM debate still raging on.
And not only because this RTX 4070 looks so attractive in this pink color.
