Pokémon TCG Pocket has a secret Mew card that isn’t too complex to get

The Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket features a secret, fully-artworked Mew card and continues the long-standing tradition of allowing players to catch the mythical pocket monster simply by completing a few compelling tasks.

The Mew card, which is part of the Genetic Apex set but has no number due to its status as an alternate art card (even though it is not actually a regular version), can only be obtained after completing the Kanto Pokédex.

This means players need to get the first 150 Pokémon from the original Red and Blue generations, which means everything from Bulbasaur to Pikachu to Dragonite to Mewtwo. Once players collect one of each of these Pokémon, the 3 Star Mew card will be unlocked.

The only stipulation is that the cards must also be from Genetic Apex, which means, for example, collecting the Butterfree promotional card from the Lapras ex special event will not count towards the 150 total, even though it is one of the first 150 Pokémon. Any version of Pokémon from Genetic Apex will work though, whether it’s ex, alternate art, regular art, or whatever.

While it’s uncomplicated, it can take some time to collect so many cards. One player recently discovered that it can take almost two years of daily play to collect all the cards in a set, although fortunately it will take much less time to acquire the 150 cards necessary for Mew.

Mew holds a special place in the set as one of only four three-star cards, meaning it’s one of the special, engaging cards with fully animated graphics. It joins Charizard, Pikachu and Mewtwo in this category, three Pokémon that appear on the covers of Genetic Apex booster packs.

Pokémon TCG Pocket launched in October as a streamlined, digital version of the beloved card game. Players open packs, collect cards, build decks and battle others; a uncomplicated formula that has already proven popular, considering it grossed $12 million in four days.

Otherwise, players may want to keep an eye out for cards from the two decks that currently dominate the Pokémon TCG Pocket meta, led by the usual suspects, former Charizard and former Mewtwo. Conspiracy theorists can also discover what some players believe is the best way to obtain such cards.
