Pokémon Go will boost global spawn rates in a major modern move

Published:

  • Pokémon Go is making a major change by increasing its global spawn rates
  • You will also get a bonus to encounters and spawn areas in densely populated areas
  • This is part of a package of moves by Niantic to refresh the nearly decade-old game

Pokémon Go, Niantic’s flagship AR game produced in collaboration with the notable creature catching series, may have had its ups and downs. But Niantic wants to convince anyone who is still skeptical after Covid by introducing a major modern change as spawn rates will raise!

Yes, that’s right. It is not momentary or event dependent. Pokémon will appear more frequently, and the number of encounters and areas in which they appear will also raise in densely populated areas. Since Niantic has struggled to get Go’s IRL component back post-covid, there have been some updates that have won praise and others that have pissed people off.

However, I have no doubt that for those of you who have difficulty catching your chosen Pokemon, this will be the case Very welcome news. Since spawn rate seems to be a particular target for criticism, updating it is a very simple win for Niantic and is sure to be a huge hit with players as well.

Now you CAN catch them all

However, I wouldn’t necessarily call this an admission of any mistakes or misconduct on Niantic’s part. By updating Pokémon’s spawn rate, Niantic seems to be keeping up with the times. After all, even in the nearly ten years since Go’s launch (has it really been that long?), many cities have changed drastically.

Not to mention where and how the players are spread out. I’m sure those of you living in huge cities will welcome the raise in the frequency of appearances in the colder months of the year, so you won’t have to spend as much time outside!
