PokemonGo is hosting an event to celebrate Mankey Community Day Sunday, November 10, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m in your local time.
As expected for a Community Day event, Mankey will spawn in huge numbers with a high chance of looking shiny. There are also some other bonuses and benefits which we have listed below.
How to catch a shiny Mankey in Pokémon Go?
According to senior research from the now defunct website The Silph Road (via Return machine), Shiny rates in Community Days are around 1 in 24, which means that if you play for the entire three hours, you should find quite a few shiny Pokémon.
If you’re miniature on time or Poké Balls, you can throw incense and then quickly tap each Mankey to check for any shiny ones, running away from the non-shiny ones. It’s worth noting that any Mankey you’ve already clicked on will be facing where your player is standing, so this should facilitate identify which ones you may have already checked.
What Community Day move does Mankey Evolution learn?
If you evolve Mankey or Primape into Primeape or Annihilape from 14:00 to 22:00 local time, it will learn a charged move Fist of Rage.
Primeape has unusual evolution requirements to normally evolve into Annihilape. However, for this Community Day the usual method has been temporarily replaced by an easier method: Set Primeape as your buddy and catch 20 Battle-type Pokémon. This will be energetic from 14:00 to 22:00 local time, so take advantage of this to exploit and evolve Mankey and Primeape.
If you miss its evolution during this period, you will likely be able to evolve it during the Community Day weekend event in December to obtain Rage Fist. If you don’t want to wait, you can exploit Elite TM to make your move.
How does Annihilape fare in the Pokémon Go meta?
Unfortunately, at the time of writing, we do not know the exact statistics of Rage Fist. (Full disclosure: we prepare these posts a few days in advance because we don’t usually work on weekends!) PvP-focused sites like PvPoke anticipate that Rage Fist will facilitate Annihilape and Primeape re-enter the meta after the nerfs that came with with PvP changes at the beginning of the season.
In terms of PvE content (Raids and Gyms), Annihilape is in the top 20 Ghost-type attackers once you get rid of Shadow Pokémon and Megas, but that doesn’t mean much. He is outclassed by many the more common Pokémon: Gengar and Chandelure, as well as plenty of Legendary Pokémon like Lunala, Origin Forme Giratina, Darkrai, Mewtwo – you get the idea. You can completely build Annihilape and invest in it if you want, but since it doesn’t have a Ghost-type brisk move available, Rage Fist probably won’t push it up the ladder compared to these long-running meta-types.
How to make the most of Mankey Community Day?
The following bonuses will be energetic during Mankey Community Day:
- Triple XP for catching Pokémon
- Double candy for catching Pokémon
- Double chance for Trainers at level 31+ to earn XL Candy for catching Pokémon
- The incense lasts three hours
- Bait modules last three hours
- Special Mankey photobombs when taking photos
- One additional special transaction
- Stardust cost halved when trading
That said, you should definitely throw in a Lucky Egg and some incense and try to get the mighty Mankey.
If you can Mega Evolve Heracross, Blaziken, Medicham, Lopunny, or Lucario, you will receive additional Mankey Candies for each one you catch.
Additionally, Niantic continues to host special 4-star raids from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM, where once the raid is cleared, Primeape Mankey will appear within a 300-meter radius around the gym for 30 minutes. These raids cannot be conducted remotely. If simply increasing the spawn from 2-5 p.m. doesn’t get you the Mankey you wanted, you can try raiding for another chance.
