Pokémon Go Leak Reveals the XP and Level Up Quests Needed to Reach the Game’s New Level 80 Cap – and Some Fans Say It’s Too Easy

Published:

Pokémon Go’s modern level cap requirements have been leaked, and some fans are claiming that the total amount of modern XP required, as well as some additional tasks, are too effortless.

This week, Pokémon Go will raise its current level 50 cap for the first time in five years and allow players to reach level 80 for the first time. However, this change will be accompanied by an overall XP rebalance – meaning many players will be pushed to a much higher level, potentially well beyond the XP needed to immediately reach level 80.

Of course, players won’t just log in and get to the finish line. As is currently the case, to advance through the final level of the game (from 70 to 80, replacing similar tasks required to advance from 40 to 50), you will need to complete a modern set of additional tasks. But even those – which have been reviewed by fans – have been called rather uncomplicated.

Last night a post The official Pokémon Go blog has listed the modern XP requirements needed after the game’s maximum level raise tomorrow, October 15.

Pokémon Go has balanced XP requirements:

  • Level 10: 48,000 XP total
  • Level 20: 258,000 XP total
  • Level 30: 1,083,000 total XP
  • Level 40: 3,953,000 XP total
  • Level 50: 12,753,000 XP total
  • Level 60: 34,353,000 XP total
  • Level 70: 85,853,000 XP total
  • Level 80: 203,353,000 total XP

It’s engaging to compare these fresh totals with the amount of XP needed to reach the game’s level 50 cap. Currently, reaching level 50 requires a total of 176 million XP over your lifetime. (This week, after the game is rebalanced, level 50 will require just 12.75 million XP.) This means that the modern level 80 cap requires only 27 million XP more than the current level 50.

While it has been clear for some time that Pokémon Go’s modern level cap would be accompanied by a general easing of the game’s overall XP requirements, die-hard fans were still surprised to discover that many of them would once again find themselves in the modern Pokémon Go endgame with little or no actual XP gain.

Moving on to level-up tasks, fans investigate data-driven list what will be needed, they found the requirements to be rather uncomplicated. Each level requires players to have an increasing number of platinum medals in the game, although they can be earned in ways that reflect your play style. Some will take some time – Purifying 100 Shadow Pokémon – but with planning, there’s nothing here that will keep hardcore players away for too long.

Indeed, fans are also clearly relieved by the lack of artificial time restrictions – such as requiring Pokémon to be caught within 30 days and pausing progress for a month – something already found in other challenges.

With these quests and the modern XP rebalancing in Pokémon Go, it’s clear that the game is adapting to modern players and leveling the playing field a bit, giving modern players a chance to catch up with those who have been playing for almost a decade. As the game celebrates its 10th anniversary next year, its developers will likely want to make sure Pokémon Go continues to welcome modern blood into its user base without giving them too steep an XP mountain to climb. But some veterans are less impressed.

“It’s all so simple,” wrote Old_Indication_4379 on the list of Pokémon Go’s biggest fans reddit Dear Silph.

“I’m more disappointed than disappointed,” added another fan, avaible17. “I’m sitting on 352 million xp and I doubt that’s an impressive number for most old timers. I was hoping for a challenge and motivation to play, I have easy and repetitive tasks that most of them can be done in one day (except walking).

“I was hoping to introduce a new type of medal that would take my grind beyond the capabilities of the human body,” they continued. “Now I’m writing this and I think they just make it easier for beginners, not more challenging for old dogs.”

A new egg and incubator for daily adventures in Pokémon Go.

New leveling incentives will include ongoing upgrades to Pokémon, inventory, and gift storage, as well as an increased chance of earning Happy Friends status when players reach level 70 and above. Finally, and most mysteriously, there is a new 1km Daily Adventure Incubator available for players above level 15. In addition to the current in-game Daily Adventure Incense item, which rewards players with extra spawns for 15 minutes, it is designed to reward players who walk at least 1km per day.

However, exactly what Pokémon will be hatched in the Daily Adventure Incubator remains unknown – although fans are already speculating that the mechanic will eventually include ultra-rare Pokémon (Manaphy and Phione seem like good choices!), just as the Daily Adventure Incense has a rare chance to spawn the legendary Galar bird.

Overnight, the Pokémon Go development team fixed a major bug yesterday that prevented anyone who completed the first weekly challenge from playing. AND message Posted on the Niantic Support social media account last night, it offered a bit of XP and Stardust as an apology to affected players, but didn’t specify whether the Weeky Challenge feature would return next week.
