Pocket Pokémon TCG players rave about mythical ‘God packs’ that feature 5 alternate graphics cards

Pocket players of the Pokémon Trading Card Game can’t wait to open the so-called God Pack, which contains extremely infrequent cards with alternate art in all five slots.

Card collectors took to social media to post about their god packs, with some unable to believe their luck and thinking there was a glitch involved. Pusteb01 for example, on Reddit, alternate art versions of Moltres ex, Rapidash, Pinsir, Erika, and Charmander were downloaded in one package.

Actual Impact8802 he included Nidoqueen, Nidoking, Gyarados and Snorlax in his two alternate graphics. Another user, bodelerhe brought out former Moltres, Rapidash, Charizard, Moltres, and Alakazam, again all in extremely infrequent alternate art forms. “I pooped,” they said.

These 60 alternate cards are the rarest items available in the Pokémon TCG Pocket, and add well over a year to the completion of the first set, Genetic Apex. However, drawing five at one time will certainly speed up the process.

This has led many to desperately try to discover if there’s a hidden mechanic that can activate the god packs, though aside from the almost definitely illegitimate ruffled horns conspiracy theory, it comes down to pure luck.

Developer Creatures Inc. however, he shared the actual odds for these packs, which are officially called simply Rare Packs. Players have a 0.05% chance of opening, says Pokémon TCG Pocket, which means a one in 2,000 chance.

Some affable players and some, dare we say, jealous ones, are urging those who have shared their god packs to share their friend codes as well. Pokémon TCG Pocket includes something called Wonder Pick, which allows players to dive into other people’s packs and pull one of those cards, and a list of available packs can be pulled from your friends list.

This means that if someone is friends with the player who opens the god pack, that secondary player can also try it. While Wonder Picks are often reserved for mid-range packs, leaving plenty of common cards on the table for a random one in five chance, God packs obviously guarantee an extremely infrequent card even at their weakest.

Pokémon TCG Pocket launched in October as a streamlined, digital version of the beloved card game. Players open packs, collect cards, build decks and battle others; a basic formula that has already proven popular, considering it grossed $12 million in four days.

Creatures Inc. is busy adding all kinds of events to the game, including a player vs. player battle event released today, November 7. This isn’t a full competitive mode for Pokémon TCG Pocket, but it’s certainly a step in that direction, and it will certainly be the first real competitive test of which decks are the best, with both ex Mewtwo and ex Charizard dominating so far.
