Foretold probably not destined for a quick return, but PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscribers on PlayStation 5 can try out the surprisingly glossy fantasy parkour for free starting December 17, Sony announced on Wednesday.
This month it was joined by several other notable games, including Sonic’s limits, Space for the unrelated, FOGS!AND Jak and Daxter: Legacy of the Forerunners. But none of them can compare to the jumping and sliding rush of Square Enix’s pretty – if a little lackluster – open-world action RPG from last year.
Though critical response was mixed whether Foretold could stand alongside the sprawling adventures of games like Final Fantasy 7: Remakethere were several fans of the acrobatic finesse of the main character Frey. With his “Flow” ability, he can jump and slide over objects in the environment by holding down a single button – no finger gymnastics required. This also works in combat, allowing her to dodge and escape from enemies unscathed.
In our review, Grayson Morley praised the ability’s ability to move around and the numerous ways it was developed throughout the story, but said it was cut miniature once everything started to come together. “By the time you get your fourth set of magical abilities, you’ll feel like the game is finally opening up, with the full set of powers available, and this feeling is immediately undermined by the fact that it’s actually ending,” Morley wrote.
If you ask me, this sounds like the perfect kind of game where you can try out a PS Plus subscription guilt-free. Maybe it won’t satisfy you for 40 hours, but for 5 or 10? It’s a holiday treat. Abandoned the action takes place even a few days before Christmas; this could be your recent tradition.
Foretold will be available to both PS Plus Extra and Premium subscribers from December 17.
