Announced on Blog about PlayStationA total of 14 games join the library, 10 in the PlayStation Plus Extra tier and four in the PlayStation Plus Premium tier via the Classic Games Catalog and PSVR2 offering. They will be available from October 15.
As part of the spooky pre-Halloween season, The Dark Pictures Anthology: The Devil in Me and Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed also arrive alongside the main horror film Dead Island 2.
PlayStation Plus game catalog additions for October 2024
Dead Island 2 is the long-awaited sequel to the zombie-smashing game, which finally released in 2023. Players rampage through a post-apocalyptic version of Los Angeles in a first-person RPG where you’re encouraged to be as original as you can when killing zombies. “Dead Island 2 is a hilarious gore-fest and a compelling zombie-killing adventure, but beyond its great sense of humor, it lacks creativity,” IGN said in our 7/10 review.
Two Point Campus is a college simulation game in which players can build their ideal campus and hire their dream team of employees to run it. “The wacky humor may or may not be hit or miss, but as a management simulator, I graduated with honors from Two Point Campus,” IGN stated in our 8/10 review.
The Devil In Me is the final game in the first season of The Dark Pictures anthology from Until Dawn studio and The Quarry developer Supermassive Games. While the studio was clearly always looking for a return to form like Until Dawn (and even its remake was poorly received), The Devil in Me couldn’t quite live up to it. It only scored a 5/10 in IGN’s review.
Gris strives to be as much a work of art as a video game, describing itself as a “serene and evocative interactive” in which players “discover a meticulously designed world brought to life by delicate graphics, detailed animation, and an elegant original soundtrack.” In our 6/10 review, IGN stated, “Behind Gris’s beautiful exterior lies a simple, sometimes confusing platformer.”
Return to Monkey Island is the long-awaited sequel to the beloved Monkey Island series. It scored an impressive 9/10 in IGN’s review. “‘Return to Monkey Island’ will likely be full of cleverly crafted puzzles, funny dialogue, and memorable characters,” we said. “But when series creator Ron Gilbert returns to the show’s director’s chair for the first time since 1991, it also unexpectedly offers a lot of heart. This is a delight for adventure game lovers.”
Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed, a multiplayer game with as much content as one of its ghostly opponents, is the next four-on-one game to arrive in 2022. “Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed is an asymmetrical multiplayer game that is mostly fun but desperately needs more content,” IGN said in our 6/10 review.
Firefighting Simulator: The Squad allows players to join a fire department team in a immense American city and explore over 40 different locations in an environment inspired by the West Coast of North America. “Equip yourself with authentic firefighting equipment such as helmets, firefighting boots and a model SCBA from well-known firefighting equipment manufacturers in North America,” the synopsis reads.
Off Road Overpass 2 racing game allows players to compete in races and try to get the best time on extreme tracks behind the wheel of powerful and officially licensed ATV and UTV vehicles. Overpass 2 features 37 vehicles in three different categories, five environments, 31 tracks and multiple racing modes.
On his bike. Tour de France 2023 is the video game version of, well, Tour de France 2023. Players can pedal alongside the best cyclists, test their endurance and show their mettle to win on the Champs Elysées.
Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands is an open-world action game released by Ubisoft in 2017. It was already included in the PlayStation Plus game catalog. “Ghost Recon: Wildlands has some issues with repetition, but the co-op antics make it a fun military shooter,” IGN said in our 7/10 review.
Virtual reality whisperer The Last Clockwinder is a whimsical automation puzzle game in which players must repair the Clock Tower: an age-old haven for galactic plants and seeds built into the trunk of a colossal tree. The special Clockwinder gloves allow players to turn any plain task into a looping clockwork machine.
The main game in the PlayStation Plus classic games catalog is the beloved 1999 title Dino Crisis. Since the newfangled attempt was apparently cut compact due to Monster Hunter, the original is gamers’ best choice for a shot in 2024. “Dino Crisis brings back the stylistic fixed-camera angles, multi-level maze structures, and gallons of blood and gore with all the shock and suspense that Resident Evil 2 delivered,” IGN said in our September 10, 1999 review.
In the same month as the release of the Silent Hill 2 remake, gamers can immerse themselves in a more classic Japanese horror game with the release of Siren in the PlayStation Plus classic games catalog. “A siren calls and a sea of red water mysteriously surrounds the mountain village of Hanuda,” reads the synopsis. Originally released on PlayStation 2, Siren has now been enhanced with up rendering, rewind, quick save and custom video filters.
Finally, R-Type Dimensions EX is a collection of coin-op classics where players battle through all 14 full Bydo stages in retro 2D graphics or shiny 3D graphics – and switch back and forth with the press of a button on the fly.
