- Seagate and Sony presented the Astro Bot Limited Edition external game drive
- The design is based on the PlayStation mascot and even features his iconic robot eyes
- You can pre-order the 5TB tough drive now on PlayStation Direct for $159.99
Huh. It seems we all may have missed the announcement of the modern Astro Bot PS5 external tough drive from Sony and Seagate. I know at least that was the case.
Perfect for any PlayStation or Astro Bot fan, as well as a PS5, PS5 Pro or PS4 gamer looking for additional external storage with flair, the Astro Bot Limited Edition Game Drive offers a whopping 5TB of external tough drive space housed in a stunning, limited-edition case.
The great news is – at least for Americans – that it’s available for pre-order now, ahead of its December 11 release date: $159.99 on PlayStation Direct. Seagate told me the drive will definitely come to the UK too and will be priced at £169.99, but pre-orders are not yet available in that region.
Featuring exclusive graphics, a very striking astro-blue LED glow, and a plug-and-play USB connection, this is another plain yet effective solution from Seagate that will have collectors like me fighting to get into their collection.
Now that five years have passed since the launch of the PS5, there is no doubt that this type of release is intended more for collectors and mega-fans than for anyone else. This confined edition artwork is the highlight and first of all, I can’t wait to display it next to my other confined edition gear.
As a tough drive, it’s huge and straightforward to employ, yes, but it doesn’t offer the same speeds as the best PS5 SSDs or external SSDs like the Seagate Game Drive External SSD for PS5 that I have. But that may not matter to you – it wears its core features on the surface and technically doesn’t pretend to be anything it isn’t.
But no matter how you look at it, it’s a fan favorite and will look great paired with the two limited-edition Astro Bot DualSense wireless controllers. This will be very practical for anyone who has a huge library of PS4 games or for someone who wants to have dozens of PS5 games at their fingertips.
