Peter Molyneux has been working on the self-funded game for about three years with a team of 20 people at his studio 22cans, and it’s finally here. The renowned gaming veteran appeared at Gamescom Opening Night Live on Tuesday to reveal his next game Champions of Albion. It is also available to add to wishlist Couple.
“After playing on mobile — what the hell was I thinking? — I was like, ‘I need to go home. I need to go home to PC and console,’” Molyneux said on stage at Gamescom.
According to Gamescom host Geoff Keighley, Molyneux was working on the game “in secret,” but the game creator has been dropping hints in the past. He was cautious about 2023 interview with Gamereactorbut it was revealed that the then-unannounced title would feature mechanics “never before seen in any game” and would return to PC and consoles.
At first glance, it’s clear that there’s a lot of detailed customization in how you play. For example, you can decide how to feed your townspeople, right down to the ingredients you put in your sandwiches. You’ll mostly be playing in God mode, where your cursor takes the form of a giant hand that can click and pick up villagers. If you want, you can click on your character to play in third-person mode. This can come in handy during combat, where you can either fight monsters as a warrior or become a god again to perform more powerful, supernatural attacks.
Although it is not specifically stated here, Molyneux has previously teased that the game that had the code name MOATwould take place in the same Albion as the one in the Fable series.
Molyneux is behind many classic games including Fairy talebut he is probably best known for his influence on god games Populousin which players see from above a divine figure who has enormous influence and power over the game world and events.
However, over the past decade, Molyneux has become known for making promises about game development that have backfired. He previously admitted to lying to the press and too enthusiastic about the functions he invents, a move he regretsHis last announced project was Heritage“blockchain business simulation” filled with NFTs.
