Pathologic 3 was revealed by Ice-Pick Lodge and HypeTrain Digital and is the sequel to Pathologic 2 which was released in 2019. Pathologic 2 was actually a reboot of the original Pathologic that was released in 2005. It had three characters which were Changeling, Haruspex and Bachelor. The 2019 reboot focused solely on Haruspex, while Pathologic 3 will focus on the Bachelor.
In Pathologic 3, the Bachelor is a doctor who came to a miniature town, trying to find an immortal man and defeat death. The Bachelor only has 12 days to complete this impossible mission, but he has the advantage of access to time travel mechanics. While trying to overcome death, players will also influence events in the city and try to facilitate the inhabitants as an epidemic grips the population.
Ice Pick Lodge founder Nikolai Dybowski said: “We create a game about how a person develops his mind to learn to work with things that he previously couldn’t or didn’t know how to notice. Our goal is to understand what this means for the player. The most pressing issue for me right now seems to be rethinking our habitual understanding of how our mind works – how to apply it without getting into trouble and losing ourselves. That’s why I want to create a game that deals with this topic. A bachelor sees himself as an intellectual person. We can describe the concept of this mechanic as surreal time management. Our goal is to give the player the sense that time is more complicated than we usually perceive it – as a linear path. We want to show the player the possibility of existing in a world that is dismantled and functions in a completely different way from what we are used to.”
Pathologic 3 will be released in 2025 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
