Original story: Path of Exile 2 debuts in early access later today on PS5, but honestly, you need to check your expectations if you plan on playing the action RPG all weekend long.
Basically, this long-awaited sequel is going to be a juggernaut. Throughout the night, developer Grinding Gear Games confirmed that the title had already arrived 1 million possibility of early access. In other words, the servers will be fully loaded from the first minute.
“Of course it’s great news, but it comes with some downsides,” admits director Jonathan Rogers in a rather candid video message. “There will likely be lines forming on opening weekend.”
“We really didn’t expect more than a million people to be online at the same time,” Rogers continues, before explaining that additional servers were rolled out to assist deal with the load.
“I have some concerns about backend issues. Honestly, we don’t know what backend services we’ll be able to handle once the number of users hits one million.”
The team intends to “scale everything we have as far as we can,” but it actually seems like Rogers is warning everyone that things could get tricky. “We’re really not sure what limits we can push,” he concludes.
