Patapon 1+2 Repensation review – march to the rhythm of your own drum

Verdict

Patapon 1+2 replay is a strange but wonderful rhythmic game, which I highly recommend to both veterans and newcomers, providing the hours of portable fun and a dose of nostalgia

Despite my self -proclaimed affinity for rhythmic games, until recently I have never played Patapon before. This is potentially because the title 2007 came from PSP, which was my dad, but thanks to Bandai Namco’s Patapon 1+2 replay Edition, I finally managed to experience this strange story of the rhythm game.

The Patapon series, which appeared on my radar after the original band was announced by Ratatan, the upcoming game Switch, which acts as a spiritual successor of Patapon, follows the Funky sperm, one -eyed creatures that look a bit like the cast of the world of goo. As their powerful leader, you order their forces to develop, attack, hunt and more through the strength of the rhythmic drum. It immediately differs very much from most rhythmic games that I played in the past, which simply make you play various songs for playing with appearing and hitting this sweet, sweet full combination.

Patapon 1+2 replay, as the name suggests, connects the first two games in the series into one shapely Remaster package, along with a sheath of changes in the quality of life, which did not cut in ports of 2017 for PS4. Although the artistic style is quite simplified, it looks fantastic on my Nintendo Switch 2, especially thanks to its bold colors, and I have not encountered any performance problems during my long manual and assigned play sessions.

Usually I am not a fan of war games or any games in which I take control of occupying or aggressive strength. In Patapon and its continuation it is not very clear whether Patapons are pressed or simply hungry for power, so I tried not to think too much about it. There is also some language and design choices, such as the word “juju”, which I do not think to become particularly good, but do not diminish the game as a whole.

Patapon 1+2 Repetition: Battle screen drop

I saw other reviewers of the original titles, and the remaster says Patapon is perfect for tiny game sessions and I definitely agree. The gameplay is addictive, and at the level level you really fall into groove, but if you play too many stages, you start to realize how grilling is experience. I think Patapon 2 slightly improves this feeling, especially since you can combine your recording of data from the first game to go through the initial stages of the tutorial much faster. I also decided that the Patapon 2 sign is much more pronounced, which leads to much less time to waste time when I realized what the game wanted me to do to proceed.

In a similar way to Pikmin, Patapon 1+2 Replay really makes you care for your army of petite eyeballs. Seeing how they fall into the battle (even though I knew I could revive them) or running, because they lit up really makes me want to achieve better levels at the levels. Improvements of the quality of life also seem very trouble -free, to the extent that I learned after playing that they were not present in the original games. If I played in Patapon in 2007, it is not possible to remember various combinations of buttons for different commands, so the mini menu is a choice for me.

Patapon 1+2 Repent Review: rain spell

Patapon 1+2 replay is extremely well adapted to the Nintendo Switch, which makes sense as the title of PSP, and I see how I play several levels here and there in bed or on trains in the future. My only concern related to playing in portable mode is that after an hour I felt that my hand was spasm, and I am writing this review with residual pond pain in my right hand from the Mon-Pon-Pad-Pon-Pon-ring for too long night. This is probably another reason why people recommend playing in tiny series! I should listen to this advice, but although I was at first hesitated to this game, it has an extremely satisfying and addictive game loop.

In general, the replay of Patapon 1+2 is a strange but wonderful rhythmic game, which I highly recommend to both veterans and novices. Given that the package of two games and all additional changes in quality of life costs only 30 USD, is a great offer that will provide hours of fun.
