Blizzard has officially revealed the up-to-date support hero for Overwatch 2. She’ll be Juno, an adorable astronaut and healer. She’ll be playable in a limited-time “Hero Trial” that will begin July 19 — tomorrow — and run through July 21 on all platforms.
Juno will be available in all game modes except Competitive Play during the trial period, as well as in No Limits mode in the Overwatch Arcade, so anyone in the game will be able to play as Juno instead of having to race to choose the first character.
Details about the up-to-date hero’s abilities have not yet been revealed, but today’s trailer shows off a few highlights: Juno’s Mediblaster weapon, which heals or damages depending on who it’s aimed at, her Glide Boost ability, which looks like a circumscribed form of flight (or maybe just a very high-flying jump), the Pulsar torpedoes, which appear to be a powerful, multi-target version of the Mediblaster, and the Hyper Ring, a type of gate that makes anyone who passes through it very rapid.
The grand finale comes in the form of Juno’s Orbital Beam (presumably her ultimate), a blast from a distant space station that apparently significantly buffs Juno’s allies and debuffs her enemies.
As for Juno herself, that remains a mystery for now. As noted PolygonBlizzard began teasing the character in June, adding an empty escape pod to Overwatch 2’s Dorado map that appeared to be carrying a mysterious “Space Ranger” back to Earth. The encrypted message transmitted through the pod included the line “J has landed,” which some have taken to be a reference to Jiaya, Mei’s senior friend. However, Juno’s apparent youth may mean, as others have speculated, that she is actually Jiaya’s daughter.
We’ll find out soon enough. Blizzard said a full breakdown of her abilities and likely her backstory will be shared Friday with the Overwatch 2 patch notes.
