Welcome to Off The AppStore, a weekly feature with a twist. Namely, while these – like all the games we cover here – are games you can play on your phone, they operate outside of the two main ways to play: the Google Play Store and the Apple AppStore.
This means that alternative App Stores or APKs may require some work to download, or that games can simply be played in your phone’s browser. However, we will try to describe it in detail for each game. Anyway, read on to find a fresh game or experience to play on Off The AppStore.
It’s all a matter of perspective when it comes to experiencing virtually everything in life, and that’s why so many creators try to create a specific perspective to share with us mortals. Sometimes it may be familiar or completely foreign, but we always hope that it will show us something fresh or aid us see something aged in a fresh way. An effortless way to do this is to give us control over the fundamentals of the universe and see how we can mess with it. Whoever or whatever Samo is, has gone the classic route of gifting us with gravity in the simply titled Upside Down.
You’ve been dropped into a futuristic universe (or maybe an alien planet or another dimension) and you’re following the journey of something that may be a robot. This machine has moves and just wants to explore and adventure as long as its body can handle them. Unfortunately, they’re still just as brittle as your standard platformer hero, so they won’t last long against traps, spikes, or being caught in energy fields. They can run and jump, but are still narrow by the natural physics of where this world is, but that’s not the only tool they have.
Please note that the robot can control gravity to some extent and you need to know when to activate this function. It can only be activated once per landing and changes the way the robot interacts with the ceiling and floor. It also changes which elements of the world will be busy when the gravity switch occurs. In addition to the robot changing from a spirited orange to a placid blue, parts of the world will change, platforms will move in fresh ways and various traps will be activated. By using it to move in the air, you can clear various obstacles and shoot for the stars, as there are three of them in each level.
Upside Down is a 3D platformer with a 2D perspective that lets you change your perspective even further with a gravity-altering robot. It’s a classic platform game that’s compact, sweet, neat and fun. Each level is compact enough that you can jump right into a quick session or see how much you can complete in the narrow free time you have. Of course, there’s never enough time to defy the laws of physics, so let’s get started.
Upside Down is available to download and play itch.io website!
