Helldivers 2 is starting to reach the point where it sees the end of what has overall been a pretty stellar first year of existence, even if it doesn’t hit that milestone until early February 2025.
Throughout the game’s post-release period thus far – which has had its fair share of ups and downs – developer Arrowhead’s community managers have done a pretty good job of helping to inform the steadfast community that has grown up around the game and making them feel like their voices are being heard. However, when the latest Major Order HD2 launched, one of them announced that he would no longer do the job.

If you’ve spent any time on the Helldivers 2 Discord server or are simply following the news about Super Earth’s ongoing struggle to take control of the galaxy, there’s a good chance the name “Twinbeard” will be heard by you. It belongs to developer Thomas Petersson, who, together with Katherine “Baskinator” Baskin, is still part of the very lively HD2 community team.
However, on Friday, Petersson revealed that he is experiencing his last day in the role as his contract with Arrowhead “comes to an end.” “Helldivers 2 is a much healthier game today than it was a few months ago, and it has a glowing future ahead of you all. Thank you for sticking with it, we at Arrowhead and I, during my time here,” he wrote in an announcement on the game’s Discord: “Most of you know I’m no fool and I don’t lie, so when I say I’m forever grateful for taking me on this incredible hell journey, know that I mean it from the bottom of my heart.
“There were things I wanted to say and sometimes I couldn’t. It’s part of my job. There were also things I wanted to do that we could never decide to do – or rather not. The show goes on, just without Be kind to my colleagues, try to be patient with all the hard-working developers if things take them longer than you would like, and remain as dedicated, crazy and wonderful as ever.
Was an outpouring of love from the Helldivers 2 community to Twinbeard, who says he will remain lively on the server in a non-Arrowhead representative capacity. Petersson definitely deserves it too – I spent a lot of time on Helldivers 2 in 2024, and even at a time when players were definitely not ecstatic with what Arrowhead and Sony were doing with the game, he was one of the most lively members of the community team facing the arduous task of moving as swift as the shooter does.
With online games like this, the key is to have a community staff that can communicate with players in a way that is candid enough to not feel disingenuous, but still maintains a professional tone even when things get heated and you have to deal with upset people. So it’s melancholy to see someone who has regularly managed to throw off this fine balance move on.

Around the same time as Twinbeard’s announcement, Helldivers 2 also received a recent main order, following on from last week’s machine gun tests, and as of this writing, players are making their way towards the target planet of Choohe, which they must pass through to secure in order to “indicate the true origins of the Jet Brigade.” Currently, the battle is taking place on the neighboring planet Matar Bay, which is 89% liberated, with just over two days left for victory.
