  • It’s a fairy tale set in SPACE, where recognizable faces are the crew members and captains of a space sailing ship
  • Use unique skills and collect spells to influence the course of battle!

Game developer Million Dreams has unveiled a up-to-date game, Once Upon a Galaxy, coming to iOS and Android. Billed as a pick-up-and-play card game, Once Upon a Galaxy drops players into a sci-fi fantasy-inspired setting where they must manage their captain and crew to achieve victory.

“Once Upon a Galaxy” joins “Treasure Planet” in the extremely occasional “space fairy tale” genre, in that it features not only more generic fantasy characters, but also some recognizable (even with the serial numbers removed) fairy tale characters.

In Once Upon a Galaxy, you choose a captain for your crew, who grants them unique bonuses before you build that crew from your deck. You’ll slowly upgrade them from Bronze to Gold by collecting spells and using special abilities to influence the course of battle.

Outstanding?

If you’re at Gen Con from August 1-4, you can check out Once Upon a Galaxy for yourself and decide for yourself. For our money, it’s definitely an fascinating approach aesthetically, but we know that many card games live and die by the value of their mechanics and balance.

While Million Dreams may be a relatively up-to-date title in the field, we don’t want to write them off because of that. That’s why we’re curious to see what Once Upon a Galaxy will look like when it releases, and whether it can soar to the stars.
