Traveling in time is perhaps the most wonderful convincing of all the conceit of science fiction, because it falls into something so incredibly human and original that we are all burdened: regret. By turning the clock, we can fix all our mistakes. A better version of our lives is only one time of departure – at least in the brilliant novel adventure game Wadjet Eye, the ancient sky.
However, not for FIA Quinn. Chronozen agent in New York in the 1860s serves as a guide, bodyguard and fixer for tourists with enough money to reserve some time in the past. In this temptingly close future, he may see how people make corrections of time and all the changes they create, just wash it.
You see, like her colleagues from Chronozen – and essential historical events, people and even buildings – Chronolocked. This means that she is unchanged by constant changes in the timeline – even its personal time axis. In an instant he may have a spouse and a child whom she has never met technically before, the next one is a party girl. But from her perspective she is always the same FIA - impossible, conscientious, lonely and completely devoted to work.
When we enter FIA’s life, he is an experienced, busy agent helping their clients to repair their gift by studying the past. This is a job that tends to complications. Sometimes customers become dishonest. Simple missions can be entangled in complicated secrets. And then there is a risk of shooting at the head – something that happens many times. It’s good that her guide, NOKZO, always has a finger that floats over this scrolling button.
The riddles of the ancient sky are not something that will lead to your head wounds when you break your face on a keyboard. Indeed, most of the time they are quite elementary – at least compared to humorous jumps, which so many other points and clicks expect. Logic and common sense will make you move on with a good clip, most of the time. But puzzles are also often tactile and humorous, and most importantly, they do not forget that you are a traveler in time.
Sometimes this means that you can solve obstacles by simply searching the historical record. Another time it means that you will have to jump between two different periods, introducing changes to the past to solve problems at a later date. One of my favorites sees that you are trying to save your own life within 30 minutes, creating a life -saving drug that does not yet exist, using ingredients that have ceased to exist.
I made a few notes here and there, but above all because the average age stole my ability to remember things for over a minute. Like most Wadjet Eye games, especially those created by Dave Gilbert, puzzles are rather fun rather than challenging. But the end result is largely the same: I always feel incredibly joyful. I may not feel like a genius of their solution, but they are still clever and satisfy.
One thing that is slightly different than the rest of Wadjet Eye’s work is art. The artist Ben Chandler, hand -painted backgrounds are ongoing, but the art’s art transformed from the complicated pixel art into something more suggestive comic: bold colors, broad lines and hand -drawn, sketched quality. I thought that I miss classic pixels more, but this novel style is so confident, and the characters so colorful that I kicked it the same.
Storytime
Art, puzzles and jazz, blues score of Thomas Regin, everything contribute to the fact that this is another feather in the Wadjet Eye hat, but this time I found myself even more dissatisfied than usual, increased, because the ancient sky is a powerful writing and phenomenal performances of a immense cast. Gilbert’s adventure games have never disappointed me in this regard, but this seems to be a noteworthy jump.
Initially, missions have a climate similar to the anthology-a circumspect adventure in another era, but always in New York. They are intimate research of human nature, but also stories about the changing face of the city that Gilbert spent on presenting his career. It is not really our However, stories. Like FIA, we are observers and facilitators. Anyway, anyway.
But the ancient sky is slowly becoming a coherent story of love, loss and regret that began to hit me with the intestines with disturbing regularity. There were a few points where I just had to stop playing through a little to regain control. When FIA develops more agencies, more personal connections, a desire to have a real life, and not just getting stuck in the eye of a storm, surrounded by a constantly changing reality, the ancient sky really becomes something special.
My heart shattered into a million diminutive pieces when I listened to her reciting her mantra, “focus on work” after she once again had a chance to a piece of happiness mercilessly detached from her another change on the time axis. Instead of transforming into a melodrama, the underestimated Sally Beaumont performance is uncomfortably real – you can feel the mastery and experience of FII when he tries to go further, but also its fatigue, and the cracks of the knots on the surface of the walls she kept over all these years.
Her journey from the composed workaholic to the tragic chips of the hero in the whole of the science fiction and macguuffins gadget until you get this incredibly sincere story. Too many adventures from the nausea time-especially recorded video-fiction, nonsense science fiction, but the ancient sky is much more interested in friends, suggestive human stories, finding the source of what means that the journey in time is such a thrilling concept, and then keeping it in the heart of everything.
He is pretty, melancholy and one of my favorite adventure games.
