Oh my god, The Rise of the Golden Idol is coming out ridiculously soon

Watch out, fellow video games, because there’s a modern GOTY contender in town. At least for my personal taste, that is. The Golden Idol case is my favorite game of 2022 – it is brief, memorable, full of supernatural puzzles, consisting of individual chapters, the solution of which gave great satisfaction. Its continuation, The creation of the Golden Idolwill apparently be released on November 12. It will appear on multiple platforms including mobile via Netflix; the announcement trailer also lists PC (via Steam), PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox and Nintendo Switch.

You have a month to catch up on the original game, which is plenty of time considering it’s not long (6-8 hours, depending on how quickly you solve the puzzles). However, this is a game that you will think about for the rest of your life and you will want to erase it from your memory and play it again because it is so scary and fun.

Here’s how it works: Each chapter of the game depicts a different crime in progress, as portrayed in the game’s strange and disturbing art style. You will never see the entire crime unfold; you simply see the events immediately before, during, or after them, presented in a brief, repeating cutscene about the length of a typical animated gif. In this brief animation you will find all the clues you need to understand what happened, as well as a notebook with a series of words you can choose to describe what you think happened. The mysteries start out basic enough, but then get weirder and weirder, each layering on top of the next to create a coherent narrative.

Watching this trailer for The creation of the Golden Idol I’m very excited because at the end of the first game I had no idea what the next story would be. It seemed that all the unclear issues had been clarified and resolved. The next game looks similar, but the idol – this time a stone statue of a monkey – looks completely different, as do the characters and events. So I’m guessing it will be a series of related mysteries in a similar style, telling a different story about a different mystical item.

If you like supernatural mysteries or like word-based puzzle games like: Obra Dinn Or Baba It’s youturn around and play The Golden Idol case and mark your calendar for the sequel coming next month. A demo is now available The creation of the Golden Idol which contains a prologue and the first mysterious chapter.
