NYT Connections today (game #507) – answers
The answers for today’s Connections game, game #507, are…
- YELLOW: GROWTH BOOM, GROW, BLANKET, GROW
- GREEN: THINGS WITH WHEELS DOLLY, ROLLERBLADE, SKATEBOARD, WAGON
- BLUE: TYPES OF TAPES ELECTRIC CHANNEL, GAFFER, PACKING
- PURPLE: RETAIL CHAINS WITH CHANGED LETTER BEST BOY, IDEA, KRONER, STABLE
- My rating: Moderate
- My result: 1 error
I am at a distinct disadvantage today compared to some people because I do not live in the United States and have never heard of KROGER, so I did not recognize that it is part of the RETAIL CHAINS WITH CHANGED LETTER group, with its equivalent being KRONER. If I had known that, maybe I would have placed it together with BEST BOY (BEST BUY), IDEA (IKEA) and STABLES (STAPLES) in the undoubtedly very challenging purple group today.
The rest weren’t basic either, but after some thought I solved them all. The blue one – KINDS OF TAPE – was the first one I got and was probably simpler than the UPSWING (yellow). Green was somewhere in between – I knew ROLLERBLADE and SKATEBOARD probably went together, but I initially put DOLLY with GAFFER, BEST BOY and BOOM as things you’d get on a movie set. It was wrong, but I persevered and finally made the connection without having to worry about that nefarious purple.

What are NYT calls?
NYT Connections is one of several increasingly popular word games created by the New York Times. The task is to find groups of four items that have something in common, and each group has a different level of difficulty: green is basic, yellow is slightly more challenging, blue is often quite challenging, and purple is usually very challenging.
The advantage is that you technically don’t have to solve the last one because you will be able to answer it by process of elimination. What’s more, you can make as many as four mistakes, which gives you some slack.
It’s a little more complicated than something like Wordle, though, and there are plenty of opportunities for the game to throw you into tricks. For example, watch out for homophones and other wordplay that can unknown answers.
You can play it for free via NYT Gaming Site on your desktop computer or mobile phone.
