NYT Connections today (game #485) – answers
The answers for today’s Connections game, #485, are…
- YELLOW: HALLOWEEN SYMBOLS Bat, Pumpkin, Spider, Witch
- GREEN: PROHIBITED BANK, BLOCK, REFUSE, PROHIBIT
- BLUE: FOUND ON MUSIC SHEET RANDOM, ATTENTION, REST, STAFF
- PURPLE: SUGAR ___ APPLE, BAR, CANE, CORN
- My rating: Easy
- My result: Perfect
Much easier today than yesterday’s almost impossible Connections. I solved all four without making any mistakes, and I suspect many of you will too.
The yellow one, HALLOWEEN SYMBOLS, was particularly effortless – finding the bat, PUMPKIN, SPIDER, and KNOWLEDGE was only slightly complicated by the presence of the APPLE, which also has some Halloween connotations (bouncing apples, anyone?). Instead, APPLE was part of the CANDY ___ group along with BAR, CANE and CORN. It was a purple combo and it was actually the first one I got. This is always an advantage when it comes to completing this game, as it means that there are rarely really hard groups. That said, I don’t think I’d graduate from Blue today – I’ve never played a musical instrument, so FOUND ON NOTES might as well have remained out of my mind. Fortunately, it didn’t matter today.

What are NYT calls?
NYT Connections is one of several increasingly popular word games created by the New York Times. The task is to find groups of four items that have something in common, and each group has a different level of difficulty: green is effortless, yellow is slightly more hard, blue is often quite hard, and purple is usually very hard.
The advantage is that you technically don’t have to solve the last one because you will be able to answer it by process of elimination. What’s more, you can make as many as four mistakes, which gives you some slack.
However, it’s a little more complicated than something like Wordle, and there are plenty of opportunities for the game to throw you into tricks. For example, watch out for homophones and other wordplay that can undiscovered answers.
You can play it for free via NYT Gaming Site on your desktop computer or mobile phone.
