NYT Connections Today (Match #406) – Answers
The answers to today’s Connections, game #406, are…
- YELLOW: WAYS TO SUPPORT THE CANDIDATE CAMPAIGN, KANATA, ORGANIZATION, STUMP
- GREEN: CONSTITUTION COMPOSITION, FABRIC, MAKEUP, STRUCTURE
- BLUE: CARPENTRY TOOLS CLAMP, FILE, LEVEL, SAW
- PURPLE: MATHEMATICAL ABBREVIATIONS LOG, MAX, MOD, TAN
- My ranking: Moderate
- My result: 2 errors
Today I lost a few guesses in the blue group “CARPENTRY”, wrongly thinking that LOG or TAN could be connected. No, I don’t know why; CLAMP, FILE, LEVEL and SAW make a lot more sense. But that aside, today’s Connections wasn’t too bad. After making those mistakes, I looked elsewhere for a while and solved the green and yellow groups, none of which were too complex, and by reducing the options I was able to finish the blues and not worry about the purples.
How did you do today? Email me and let me know.

- PURPLE: WHAT “POP” CAN MEAN BURST, DAD, MAINSTREAM, SODA
What is NYT Connections?
NYT Connections is one of several increasingly popular word games created by the New York Times. It requires you to find groups of four items that have something in common, with each group having a different level of difficulty: green is basic, yellow is a little harder, blue is often quite tough, and purple is usually very tough.
The positive is that you technically don’t have to solve the last one, since you’ll be able to answer it by elimination. What’s more, you can make up to four mistakes, which gives you a bit of breathing room.
It’s a bit more complicated than something like Wordle, though, and there are plenty of opportunities for the game to surprise you with tricks. For example, watch out for homophones and other wordplay that can hide answers.
You can play it for free via NYT Games Page on your desktop computer or mobile device.
