NYT Connections Today (Match #399) – Answers
The answers to today’s Connections, game #399, are…
- YELLOW: SLIM PROJECTION POINT, TOOTH, TOOTH, TIP
- GREEN: COLLECTIBLE ITEMS TERMS GOOD, GOOD, GOOD, MINT
- BLUE: OCCUPATION BUSINESS, FIELD, INDUSTRY, TRADE
- PURPLE: WORDS BEFORE “NUT” BRAZIL, BUTTER, DOUGH, PINE
- My ranking: Easy
- My result: Perfect
It’s a infrequent day indeed that I solve a purple group at all – and even rarer that I solve it before anyone else. But then again, it’s infrequent that it’s as uncomplicated as today’s combination based on NUTS. The moment I saw both BRAZIL and PINE in the same puzzle, I knew there was a good chance they were related, and when I also noticed DOUGH and BUTTER, I was convinced.
Not surprisingly, the other three groups were even easier, and for the first time I can honestly say that I would have chosen the last one (in my case, blue, “profession”) even if I hadn’t chosen it by default.

- PURPLE: SILENT “T” CASTLE, TROUBLE, LISTEN, WITCH
What is NYT Connections?
NYT Connections is one of several increasingly popular word games created by the New York Times. It requires you to find groups of four items that have something in common, with each group having a different level of difficulty: green is uncomplicated, yellow is a little harder, blue is often quite difficult, and purple is usually very difficult.
The positive is that you technically don’t have to solve the last one, since you’ll be able to answer it by elimination. What’s more, you can make up to four mistakes, which gives you a bit of breathing room.
It’s a bit more complicated than something like Wordle, though, and there are plenty of opportunities for the game to surprise you with tricks. For example, watch out for homophones and other wordplay that can hide answers.
You can play it for free via NYT Games Page on your desktop computer or mobile device.
