The answers to today’s Connections, game #441, are…
- YELLOW: JUMP FURY BOILING, SMOKING, FLAVORED, STEAMING
- GREEN: STATUS POSITION, RANKING, POSITION, STATION
- BLUE: WORDS THAT FORM THE ABBREVIATION “HVAC” AIR CONDITIONING, HEATING, VENTILATION
- PURPLE: ACTIVITIES THAT REQUIRE FOLDING BAKING, WASHING, ORIGAMI, POKER
- My rating: Moderate
- My result: 1 error
It’s always intriguing to see the order in which the NYT places the groups in Connections. Today, for example, the purple one—the hardest—is “Activities Involving Folding,” which I solved first out of all the groups. The blue one is supposedly easier, but it was an acronym for HVAC, a term I was completely unfamiliar with and could only solve by implicit guesswork. I guess one person’s tough answer is another person’s basic answer…

What is NYT Connections?
NYT Connections is one of several increasingly popular word games created by the New York Times. It requires you to find groups of four items that have something in common, with each group having a different level of difficulty: green is basic, yellow is a little harder, blue is often quite tough, and purple is usually very tough.
The positive is that you technically don’t have to solve the last one, since you’ll be able to answer it by elimination. What’s more, you can make up to four mistakes, which gives you a bit of breathing room.
It’s a bit more complicated than something like Wordle, though, and there are plenty of opportunities for the game to surprise you with tricks. For example, watch out for homophones and other wordplay that can hide answers.
You can play it for free via NYT Games Page on your desktop computer or mobile device.
