The answers to today’s Connections, game #468, are…

  • YELLOW: CLAIRVOYANT MEDIUM, MYSTIC, ORACLE, PSYCHIC
  • GREEN: SPECIAL EDITION ADJECTIVES COLLECTIBLE, EXCLUSIVE, LIMITED, RARE
  • BLUE: “GREAT JOB!” IMPRESSIVE, NICE, PROPS, WELL DONE
  • PURPLE: VERY SCARY, BLOODY, REAL, WAY

  • My rating: Easy
  • My result: 1 error

This was a surprisingly effortless Connections puzzle, even by recent examples, although I still managed to make one mistake. It was a stupid mistake; I’m sure the NYT deliberately misled me, and I fell right into the trap. I’m talking about BLOODY, RARE, WELL DONE, and MEDIUM, of course – which could mean “Ways to cook a steak.” But no, all four words actually belonged to alternate groups.

This quickly became clear when I looked again and realized that MEDIUM, Mystic, ORACLE, and PSYCHIC were words for CLAIRVOYANT (yellow), and COLLECTIBLE, EXCLUSIVE, LIMITED, RARE made up the green group for SPECIAL EDITION ADJECTIVES.

There were blue and purple, but this time neither were too complicated. No “empty something,” no clever cryptic connections—just a few groups, both of which were pretty obvious.

What is NYT Connections?

NYT Connections is one of several increasingly popular word games created by the New York Times. It requires you to find groups of four items that have something in common, with each group having a different level of difficulty: green is effortless, yellow is a little harder, blue is often quite demanding, and purple is usually very demanding.

The positive is that you technically don’t have to solve the last one, since you’ll be able to answer it by elimination. What’s more, you can make up to four mistakes, which gives you a bit of breathing room.

It’s a bit more complicated than something like Wordle, though, and there are plenty of opportunities for the game to surprise you with tricks. For example, watch out for homophones and other wordplay that can hide answers.

You can play it for free via NYT Games Page on your desktop computer or mobile device.
