NYT Connections Today (Match #411) – Answers
The answers to today’s Connections, game #411, are…
- YELLOW: BASIC INSTRUCTIONS DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT, UP
- GREEN: DEFENDER BACK, CHAMPION, SUPPORT, SUPPORT
- BLUE: FAULT END, DING, MINUS, THUMP
- PURPLE: INSTRUMENT HOMOPHONES BASE, LIAR, LOOT, SYMBOL
- My ranking: Hard
- My result: 3 mistakes
This combination is a real mixed bag, with one very uncomplicated and one fairly uncomplicated, but two really demanding. Or at least that was the case for me. I got the green and yellow answers pretty easily, but I just couldn’t form another group out of the eight remaining answers, and I used up three of my four guesses in an attempt to finish the game.
Eventually I realized that BASE, LIAR, LOOT, and SYMBOL were musical instrument homophones—it was SYMBOL that gave them away—which meant I had solved the blue “flaws” group by default. In retrospect, it might not have been that demanding, but DING in particular didn’t seem to me to be in any way compatible with CON, MINUS, and STRIKE…

What is NYT Connections?
NYT Connections is one of several increasingly popular word games created by the New York Times. It requires you to find groups of four items that have something in common, with each group having a different level of difficulty: green is uncomplicated, yellow is a little harder, blue is often quite demanding, and purple is usually very demanding.
The positive is that you technically don’t have to solve the last one, since you’ll be able to answer it by elimination. What’s more, you can make up to four mistakes, which gives you a bit of breathing room.
It’s a bit more complicated than something like Wordle, though, and there are plenty of opportunities for the game to surprise you with tricks. For example, watch out for homophones and other wordplay that can hide answers.
You can play it for free via NYT Games Page on your desktop computer or mobile device.
