  • BLUE: DUTCH SYMBOLS CHANNEL, CLOG, TULIPE, WINDMILL

  • My rating: Moderate
  • My result: 2 errors

Creatures that make me depressed seemed like an obvious category for the group, but it turned out to be correct as the EARTHWORM, EEL, SALAMANDER and SNAIL were classified as SNAIL ANIMALS.

I once lived in a basement apartment where my roommates and I fought a constant war of attrition against the snails that somehow found their way into our dank and miserable hovel. Although I’m sure many snail lovers would consider this an act of cruelty, we tried to prevent them from entering our premises with lines of table salt at all entry points, but they still managed to sneak in, past our soda barricades, and would find the silvery ones every morning marks on the floor or worse, we accidentally stepped on a sticky stain in our bare feet – a ball between your toes is not something you want to experience, trust e.g.

The obvious solution was to put on clogs or move out.

Yesterday’s NYT Connections Answers (Tuesday, December 31, Game 569)

What are NYT calls?

NYT Connections is one of several increasingly popular word games created by the New York Times. The task is to find groups of four items that have something in common, and each group has a different level of difficulty: green is basic, yellow is slightly more tough, blue is often quite tough, and purple is usually very tough.

The advantage is that you technically don’t have to solve the last one because you will be able to answer it by process of elimination. What’s more, you can make as many as four mistakes, which gives you some slack.

However, it’s a little more complicated than something like Wordle, and there are plenty of opportunities for the game to throw you off balance with tricks. For example, watch out for homophones and other wordplay that can hidden answers.

You can play it for free via NYT Gaming Site on your desktop computer or mobile phone.
