I always have problems when Connections uses a lot of compact words. I guess that makes sense – there are usually more ways to employ them as prefixes etc. Anyway, this probably explains why I made the mistake at first by guessing TUE, WEDNESDAY, SAT and SUNDAY as the days of the week, only to find out that I was following the wrong path.
The breakthrough came when I looked at one of the longer words, PLACED, and created a blue group. Like that, green was a elementary synonym, and with only eight words left, the homophones of the yellow group became obvious.

What is NYT Connections?
NYT Connections is one of several increasingly popular word games created by the New York Times. It requires you to find groups of four items that have something in common, with each group having a different level of difficulty: green is straightforward, yellow a little harder, blue is often quite demanding, and purple is usually very demanding.
The advantage is that you technically don’t have to solve the last one because you will be able to answer it by process of elimination. What’s more, you can make as many as four mistakes, which gives you some slack.
However, it’s a little more complicated than something like Wordle, and there are plenty of opportunities for the game to throw you into tricks. For example, watch out for homophones and other wordplay that can concealed answers.
You can play it for free via NYT Gaming Site on your desktop computer or mobile device.
