The answers to today’s Connections, game #421, are…
- YELLOW: SURVIVE COPE, COPE, COPE, MANAGE
- GREEN: TYPES OF GREETING CARDS BIRTHDAY, CONGRATULATIONS, GOOD HEALTH, THANK YOU
- BLUE: IS EVERYTHING CLEAR? UNDERSTAND, SEE, UNDERSTAND
- PURPLE: WORDS AFTER “EYE” CANDY, CONTACT, SHADOW, WITNESS
- My ranking: Easy
- My result: Perfect
Today’s Connections is surprisingly straightforward. Three of the groups are really obvious, and only the purple “words after “eye” are really tricky. But there’s a good chance you won’t have to worry about solving this one anyway.
The key group is probably the blue one, because it’s the second hardest. However, having CAPISCE in this group makes things easier, because there aren’t many ways you can use the word. Once you spot words like UNDERSTAND, it’ll be obvious what this group is, meaning you’ll have to solve the purple ones by default, without having to use a lot of brainpower.

What is NYT Connections?
NYT Connections is one of several increasingly popular word games created by the New York Times. It requires you to find groups of four items that have something in common, with each group having a different level of difficulty: green is easy, yellow is a little harder, blue is often quite hard, and purple is usually very hard.
The positive is that you technically don’t have to solve the last one, since you’ll be able to answer it by elimination. What’s more, you can make up to four mistakes, which gives you a bit of breathing room.
It’s a bit more complicated than something like Wordle, though, and there are plenty of opportunities for the game to surprise you with tricks. For example, watch out for homophones and other wordplay that can hide answers.
You can play it for free via NYT Games Page on your desktop computer or mobile device.
