Yesterday I had a huge rant about Connections and how monotonous it gets to lose every day due to the seemingly random difficulty curve. Well, I won’t complain today – because I managed to solve it. And not only that, but I solved it without errors.
In truth, this is undoubtedly an uncomplicated version of the game. Purple is the hardest of the groups, as is usually the case, but I needn’t have worried about that, since the other three were uncomplicated. In particular, the blue group – which is theoretically the third hardest – was less complicated than is often the case. The answer was: THINGS RECEIVED BY MAIL, containing BILL, CARD, CATALOG, and LETTER, which quite clearly go together.
I suspect we’ll find ourselves in impossibly arduous terrain again tomorrow, but until then I’ll enjoy a occasional victory.

What is NYT Connections?
NYT Connections is one of several increasingly popular word games created by the New York Times. It requires you to find groups of four items that have something in common, with each group having a different level of difficulty: green is uncomplicated, yellow is a little harder, blue is often quite strenuous, and purple is usually very strenuous.
The positive is that you technically don’t have to solve the last one, since you’ll be able to answer it by elimination. What’s more, you can make up to four mistakes, which gives you a bit of breathing room.
It’s a bit more complicated than something like Wordle, though, and there are plenty of opportunities for the game to surprise you with tricks. For example, watch out for homophones and other wordplay that can hide answers.
