The answers for today’s Connections game, #905, are…

  • YELLOW: APPROXIMATE BALL PARK, WIDE, GENERAL, RAW
  • GREEN: MILD SCUTS FRICK, FUDGE, SHOOT, SUGAR
  • BLUE: MLB PLAYER ANGEL, MET, RAY, ROYAL
  • PURPLE: FAMILY MEMBER’S NICKNAME AND LETTER EYEBROWS, CHEST, MOTHER, SIDES

  • My rating: Hard
  • My result: 1 error

I only know the name of one baseball player who retired in 2001, so I’m really glad I was able to see the purple group after reaching the final eight tiles.

I had previously made the mistake of thinking that MOMA and MET were part of the New York group of institutions – so I added DADA and ROYAL, having no idea what they might be.

Fortunately, I moved on quite quickly and saw APPROXIMATE and the brilliant MILD OATHS collection – although “fiddlesticks” would certainly be a better choice than FRICK.

Yesterday’s NYT Connections Answers (Monday, December 1, Game #904)

  • YELLOW: COMPLETE RETURN CIRCUMFERENCE, AROUND, ORBIT, REVOLUTION
  • GREEN: ROUND THINGS FULL MOON, LP, PIZZA, STUDENT
  • BLUE: KAFKA WORKS WITH “THE” CASTLE, JUDGMENT, METAMORPHOSIS, PROCESS
  • PURPLE: STARTING WITH LETTER HOMOPHONES EYE CONTACT, Pea Soup, SEA CHANGE, TEA LEAVES

What are NYT calls?

NYT Connections is one of several increasingly popular word games created by the New York Times. The task is to find groups of four items that have something in common, and each group has a different level of difficulty: green is uncomplicated, yellow is slightly more tough, blue is often quite tough, and purple is usually very tough.

The advantage is that you technically don’t have to solve the last one because you will be able to answer it by process of elimination. What’s more, you can make as many as four mistakes, which gives you some slack.

However, it’s a little more complicated than something like Wordle, and there are plenty of opportunities for the game to throw you into tricks. For example, watch out for homophones and other wordplay that can undiscovered answers.

You can play it for free via NYT Gaming Site on your desktop computer or mobile phone.
