Nvidia denies the allegations that RTX 50 GPU laptop is also missing ROP

Published:

New reports have appeared that the GPU laptops of the RTX 50 series are facing the same missing ROPS problem as all equivalents of NVIDIA desktop computers. Heise online (via Hardwaluxx) reports that NVIDIA has asked notebook manufacturers to catch bad parts of laptop devices that have faulty RTX 50 graphic processors with missing ROPs.

However, Nvidia responded to these claims, stating exactly the opposite. Nvidia said The Verge that the laptop GPU is motionless by the problem of missing ROPs. Verge asked Nvidia for an additional explanation for which Nvidia said: “correctly, without further problems.”

The original Heise Online report states that several notebook manufacturers allegedly work on additional changes in the Far East to catch Buggy laptops with missing GPU oil before they are sold to the public. As mentioned earlier, Nvidia (ironically) was allegedly the one who asked these companies to look for these defective general doctors.

Nvidia’s response to these reports does not fully confirm whether the problem has ever been present or only recently established. According to Nvidia, there is a chance that the RTX 50 series GPU laptops did not lack ROP to determine when reports appeared, stating that there were problems.

Regardless, if the reports are true, Heise Online has not revealed how much GPU it has. There is not even an indication whether some GPUs or all GPUs in the RTX 50 series are missing ROP (after all, most of the existing Blackwell Blackwell GPU models that have appeared so far suffer from this problem).

However, the problem (again, if it actually happened) seemed to have only influenced a fraction of laptop devices (just like the NVIDIA computer counterparts). One manufacturer Heise Online talked with allegedly mentioned that his first batch of laptop devices had to be repaired. The manufacturer neglected sharing if it affects more parties.

Again, if the Nvidia claim is true, it is good to hear that it has eventually connected the problem with the missing ROPS to the latest graphic processors of the RTX 50 series. However, the GPU laptops of the RTX 50 series still suffer from problems with the supply chain, just like their counterparts of desktop computers, forcing manufacturers to postpone the launch of devices.

High -class devices were reportedly pushed from January to March, and the medium and lower devices were pushed away from March to April.

The missing ROPS anomaly first began at RTX 5090, when reports about defective models of AIB RTX 5090 partners containing less ROP than advertised at the end of February. Shortly afterwards, Nvidia issued an official statement confirming that the problem was real, affecting not only RTX 5090, but also RTX 5070 Ti.

However, after the NVIDIA statement, reports of defective RTX 5080 began to appear.

The missing GPU ROP is harmful to performance, because ROP (rendering units) are part of the rendering pipeline. Third -party tests have confirmed that RTX 5080, with missing ROPs, loses to 11% of its efficiency compared to the advertised performance. RTX 5090 also allegedly loses to 11% efficiency, at least in TimeSPy.
