Astro Bot will be getting his own game in September, but if you’re not sure if you want to buy it, there are a few recent gameplay elements that might aid you out.

Back in May, PlayStation finally revealed the long-awaited sequel to Astro Bot, showing off a preview of the game’s much-expanded platforming action. There were a few previews for the game last month, which were generally quite favorable, and now it looks like a demo that the press was able to test out is currently available to try out at ChinaJoy 2024. The gameplay, which you can check out below, shows off a few levels, one of which is mainly a boss fight with a giant octopus monster. In this one, Astro picks up boxing gloves that allow him to fire his fists to fight enemies and swing across immense chasms.

The second is a fairly challenging level set in space, to be truthful, which just so happens to have a cameo from Jak and Daxter that you have to rescue. Finally, there’s another challenging level that involves some tricky platforming, in which case you have to rescue the player character from Journey. Apparently, this seems to be a indefinite fixture in the game, and considering that the game features over 150 classic PlayStation characters, it looks like there’s going to be a lot of challenging levels in store for you (although I imagine some of them will just be cameos).

Overall, it looks really good, which is reassuring, because Astro’s Playroom, the PS5 demo, was surprisingly fun. That one was mostly there to show off the PS5’s recent features, like feedback and triggers, but the full sequel will expand to over 80 levels. If the gameplay has caught your eye, you’ll be able to pick it up on PS5 on September 6th, later this year.
