No Rest For The Wicked’s latest update expands the endgame roguelite mode with novel enemies, power-ups, and arenas

Grimdark hack-and-slasher No Rest For The Wicked has received its first major update — or the first one that isn’t focused on bug fixes and performance improvements. It focuses on revamping the endgame replayability of the Crucible roguelite, adding more randomness to the arenas, and a novel player buff system.

“One of the biggest features we always envisioned for Cerim Crucible but couldn’t deliver at launch is Echoes. Echoes lets you customize each round with a huge variety of buffs and effects, creating a dizzying amount of possibilities because it lets you create a build based on your build,” says Moon. own introduction to the update“Thanks to Echoes and their randomness, no two runs of Crucible will be the same.”

The number of random rooms you’ll fight in has been tripled, along with a novel theme, a novel vendor, and a novel enemy faction called Gloam. Glowing with “corrupted bioluminescence,” Gloam will only appear in Crucible for now, but will be added to the Overworld in a later update.

In addition to Crucible, the update adds several outside world expansions, novel agear improvements, “stronger” combat effects, stray animals you can pet, a few more performance improvements, and Steam Deck verification. Full patch notes can be found on Steam.

No Rest For The Wicked comes from Moon Studios, previously known for the two Ori games. If you’re craving another sentimental metroidvania from them, you’re out of luck: they say they’ll be working on No Rest in Early Access for up to a decade.
