Hello Games is constantly updating No Man’s Sky over the years, adding all sorts of little things to the space exploration game: expeditions, sandworms, storms, piracy, and more. But there’s still one thing that’s sorely lacking in No Man’s Skyand this is a modest fishing mini-game. Luckily, on Wednesday, Hello Games has announced a novel update for Aquariusand finally allows you to sit back and fish to your heart’s content.
Previous No Man’s Sky patch introduced the first update to Worlds, which changed a lot of things about the planets we had seen before. Hello Games paid special attention to water, adding vigorous wave generation and shiny surface reflections. Sean Murray, Managing Director of Hello Games, notes in the announcement that Worlds was a huge success, leading to the highest player count in five years. One piece of fan art, depicting an adventurer fishing from the wing of a boat, inspired the team to create the Aquarius update.
Now, players are encouraged to find a lovely lake or immense ocean, settle in, and catch some fish. It looks like there are some normal-looking fish that aren’t too far removed from our Earth specimens, and some much weirder alien creatures that are more suited to the wild and strange planets No Man’s Sky.
Players can equip bait to attract sporadic fish, find hidden messages left in bottles, earn trophies, and unlock novel equipment, such as a personal fishing platform that can be easily set up in deep water and alien environments, or fishing pots that can be left to catch sporadic fish. These fish can also be cooked, and there are novel recipes and combinations to discover.
The Aquarius update is free and available now on PC and consoles.
