No Man’s Sky update on PS5 Pro, detailed support for recent cross save

Published:

Hi,

This year has already been very busy for us No man’s skywith 6 updates coming this year, including a massive Championship update. Our last update, The Cursed, was released just a few weeks ago and players are loving the spooky Halloween atmosphere.

When developing games, some features take weeks or months and others take years. Today we’re sharing some features we’ve been working on for years.

PlayStation 5Pro

The PlayStation 5 Pro launches today and it’s an incredible feat of engineering. We were very excited to get our hands on it right from the beginning of development. We couldn’t wait to see what was possible in No Man’s Sky with so much power at our disposal!

We’re excited to bring the enhanced version of No Man’s Sky to players on PlayStation 5 Pro at launch. It delivers even more detail and higher image quality than ever before possible on a console.

PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) enables incredible upscaling to deliver crisp 4K resolution at 60 frames per second. No Man’s Sky will also be an early supporter of 8K resolution, and the universe will look amazing in 8K at 30 frames per second.

In addition to significantly sharper resolution at higher frame rates, the increased power of PlayStation 5 Pro has enabled us to escalate the overall graphics quality. PlayStation 5 Pro players will see improved lighting with ultra-high-quality reflections and higher quality ambient occlusion in all modes. Explore the most stunning and detailed alien worlds No Man’s Sky has to offer, for the first time on console.

Not only that, but all of these improvements will also come to PS VR2! With our most stunning virtual reality images, offering Star Travelers an even more immersive experience.

Cross entry

Starting today, we’re rolling out cross-save support on all platforms. This was a huge undertaking and is one of the most requested features.

No Man’s Sky now supports cross-play and cross-save play between a huge number of platforms, including last-gen and current-gen consoles (including PlayStation 5 Pro – see below) and PS VR and PS VR 2.

Adding the ability to transfer game saves between platforms via the server is especially complex for No Man’s Sky, as the work required increases with each platform supported and how long people have been playing. Both of these numbers are gigantic for our diminutive team.

It is very common for players to accumulate thousands of hours of records as they explore space, build extensive databases, and catalog their discoveries in incredibly detailed records. Adding cross-save is a bit like moving house for us, the longer people live there, the more complicated it becomes to move them! We also have players who played once at launch, eight years ago, and suddenly load a save on a platform that didn’t even exist back then!

Normandy is back

Everyone at Hello Games is a huge sci-fi geek. One of our absolute favorite series is the amazing Mass Effect games. To join Mass Effect’s annual N7 celebration, we’re pleased to welcome the legendary SSV Normandy SR1 back to No Man’s Sky!

In 2021, Normandy first appeared during one of the first expeditions we participated in. This time-limited expedition culminated in the capture of Normandy for his fleet.

In the years since this event, we have welcomed a huge number of Travelers. Many of these recent players were the envy of those who proudly displayed the Normandy in their frigate collection.

Mass Effect fans know that this legendary freighter only appears when you need it most! Today and for the next two weeks, in a love letter from one sci-fi game to another, we’re giving everyone another chance to encounter the Normandy in a remastered version of the original mission and add it to your collection.

A huge thank you to our friends at Electronic Arts and Bioware for helping us make this happen.

This has been a momentous year for No Man’s Sky in many respects. We are very grateful to continue this journey with you.
