Donkey Kong Country returns in HD it’s finally here, but with the review embargo lifting, it looks like Nintendo has once again decided not to include the game’s original creators in the game’s credits. Instead, the sole development credit goes to Forever Entertainment, which handled the state-of-the-art port.
This has been confirmed by stores like Nintendo Lifewhich published its findings in connection with the lifting of the review embargo. Ollie Reynolds, a staff writer at Nintendo Life, noted that Retro Studios (the original creators of Donkey Kong Country Returns) were not present in the credits at all.

This is not the first such case either. In 2023, Metroid Prime Remaster was suddenly dropped on the Nintendo Switch with a fresh coat of paint. However, the original creators of the game were left out of the credits, which caused quite a stir on the Internet. A handful of original creators, including Jack Mathews, publicly expressed his dissatisfaction with this decision.
It seems that the same thing has happened again and Nintendo has no intention of changing its stance. Nevertheless, it is a tough move. At least include a line thanking the original creators, come on. It’s also an odd blip against the otherwise seemingly great HD port. Pity.
