Sony is during startup fresh PS5 firmware update globally, although you may not be able to access it yet.
The platform owner says that version 25.08-12.40.00 will be rolled out in a “phased release”, so it may take some time for it to appear in your region.
Fortunately, you don’t lose a huge amount as this is one of the manufacturer’s famed “stability” updates.
Here are the patch notes:
- We have improved messaging and usability on some screens.
- We have improved the performance and stability of the system software.
Since we don’t have access to updates yet, we’re not sure of the file size, but we’ll update when we know more.
It’s a good idea to leave your console in rest mode so you can download and install fresh firmware when you’re not playing, thus minimizing disruption.
Have you already been asked to install the fresh update? Is there anything in particular you’d like to see Sony add to the console? Let us know below.
