Speaking on behalf of everyone involved in the development and release Chiaroscuro: Expedition 33we want to thank you, each and every fan, for the unimaginable year of success our game has had in 2025. As a thank you, we’re now releasing a major content update for the game on PS5 (for free!).
The biggest novel feature is the all-new “Verso’s Drafts” level, with novel environments to explore, battles to fight and plenty of surprises to discover. The biome has a very childish, wonderland-style aesthetic inspired by Verso’s childhood, but in the update you’ll see more cutscenes that talk about this in detail.
It goes without saying that the musical magic of Lorien Testard also returns, with novel songs added in this level.
“I experienced the creation of the last OST songs as a farewell to all this adventure and characters that accompanied my life and imagination for five years. I’m glad that today was just a farewell… We had the chance to compose music on a very special level, a deep and fun part of Verso’s childhood. Who would have thought that he loved sweets so much when he was younger?
“It gave us the opportunity to have fun, dance and laugh while writing these songs; in one of them you can even hear Alice’s natural laugh! And then it was time to write the last song for the album… once again, it’s time to say goodbye. I don’t know what tomorrow will bring, whether it will be bright or unclear, but I know that in this place in between dreams bloom. Thank you for dreaming with us.”

You’ll also find plenty of unlockables in Verso Sketches. There are 13 novel weapons to unlock, and some have a kid-like feel to the level’s setting (candy scythe anyone?). There are also 16 additional Lumins to unlock, adding even more customization and combat options. There are also many more costumes and hairstyles for each character, some look very elegant and some… intentionally goofy – I won’t spoil it here, but you can try out the running animation in some of them.
Fans will be delighted to know this many many requests that we finally added a photo mode in the game! Not to brag, but it’s also quite in-depth, you can add filters (33 to be exact) and effects, change angles, field of view, color grading, and even change lighting positions and colors (with 10 fully customizable lights!).
Our Senior Gameplay Programmer, Florien Torres, shares his thoughts: “You’ll be able to use this during videos where we expect people to be very creative. With the camera in photo mode you can travel infinite distances without collisions – basically the team wanted to go the extra mile and give the player full access, meaning they could access strange places, even under the map and sort of ‘behind the scenes’.”
We’re incredibly excited to offer this to our fans and see what masterpieces they create with these novel tools.
That’s not all, of course, a lot of QoL features have been added that players will appreciate, including adding filters when searching for Lumina, the ability to save pre-made Lumina sets, and the ability to abandon battles (if you want, no judgment here). We’ve also added more support for text languages, making the game more accessible. New language additions include: Czech, Ukrainian, Mexican, Spanish, Turkish, Vietnamese, Thai and Indonesian, bringing the total number of supported languages to 19, with more planned for the future.
You can also catch it at the very end of the trailer; An additional, challenging surprise awaits you! This won’t be the only challenge players will have to overcome – you can expect plenty of novel boss battles for late-game players in Endless Tower. Steaming up the tower will reward players with novel Pictos, costumes, and tons of other gear.
