Netflix has reportedly shut down its in-house triple-A gaming studio, known as “Team Blue”, along with many of the high-profile developers it hired to work at the studio as part of its efforts to expand into the video game sphere, leaving the company.
This is according to the report from Game fileStephen Totilo, who states that this month, October 2024, Netflix shut down the SoCal-based developer, and three shy employees who were a part of it are confirmed to have moved on.

It’s currently unclear what the trio’s departure and studio closure will mean for Netflix’s gaming efforts, as the company has apparently provided no explanation as to why it decided to make such a move. In an earnings call earlier this year, top representatives from the streaming service said that there were more than 80 games in development at the time.
“We are approaching three years of our gaming initiative and we are pleased with the progress we have seen,” said co-founder and CEO Gregory Peters in same connection“We have set ourselves quite aggressive goals for engagement growth. And we achieved them, and in many cases even exceeded them.” However, he admitted that Netflix’s impact in the gaming industry was still “pretty small” compared to its efforts in the film and TV industry.
So we have to see how things continue to develop and we hope that those employees who left will get back on their feet.
