NBA team Charlotte Hornets screwed up the match and must apologize after recently giving a youthful fan a PlayStation 5 during a Christmas halftime skit and then taking the console after the cameras were turned off. The team is also giving the fan a PS5 console that they can keep this time too.
On December 16, during a basketball game between the Philadelphia 76ers and the Charlotte Hornets, youthful fans were brought onto the court to greet the cheerleaders and the team’s mascot. On the court, a woman read Christmas letters to Santa Claus and handed out gifts. One child who worked Really It’s difficult to get good grades this year, I wanted to a PlayStation 5 console. And that’s what the kid got. In the video below you can see how content he is. But this video also shows that after the break, employees took the PS5 and replaced it with a T-shirt.
Boston 25 explained that cheerleaders and others attending halftime were confused when employees took away a child’s PS5 gift. Apparently the child’s uncle, presumably the adult in the gray and blue sweatshirt with the video above, knew in advance that the gift would be received and did not share this information with his nephew.
Unsurprisingly, the billion-dollar band who oversold and took a child’s Christmas present after pretending to give it to him on camera has not gone down well online. People rightly blamed the team and its staff for this terrible prank, and within 24 hours the Hornets apologized.
On Tuesday, the team said its “on-court skit… missed the mark” and blamed it on “poor decision-making and poor communication.”
“In low, we dropped the ball and we apologize. We have contacted the family and we are committed to not only making things right, but also exceeding expectations.” the band said in a statement shared by reporter Nick Carboni.
“We will provide the fan with the PS5 they should have taken home last night, along with a VIP experience in a future game. Our goal is and will remain to enhance the guest experience for every person who enters the Spectrum Center and to show our fans how much we appreciate their continued support.
And in case you’re wondering: The Hornets received karmic justice on Monday night after a child’s PS5 was taken away. The team lost to the Sixers 121-108.
