- MU: Monarch is a modern take on the classic South Korean MMORPG
- First released in 2001, MU: Monarch brings the classic MU Online formula to the international arena
- There’s no word on a Western release yet, but it will be available on iOS and Android in SEA
MU: Monarch SEA, a modern game set in the long-running MU IP, has started pre-registration in Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines. A spin-off of the original MU Online, it brings the classic MMORPG to smartphones with modern retro graphics, as well as many of the iconic locations from the original game.
The main point of MU: Monarch is that it wants to emulate the appeal of the original MU Online, which launched in 2001. South Korea is, of course, one of the main markets for MMORPGs, and many vast franchises such as MapleStory originated in this region.
In addition to the features of the original MU Online, MU: Monarch offers PvP competition in castle sieges and 3v3 matches, free trading “dynamic marketplace”, and a wide range of custom skills and talents drawn from the long-running MMORPG.
MU: Monarch is coming to Google Play and the iOS App Store, but there’s no word on an official international release yet.
Monarchist
For those unfamiliar with the original MU Online, this game will likely be unremarkable. However, it looks like the game’s developer, Webzen, is really putting everything into what is expected to be a massive launch when the game arrives in this modern region. Bringing the classic MU Online format to a wider audience should of course be a success, but we’ll have to wait and see.
