In response to accusations that former MrBeast co-host Ava Kris Tyson seduced a minor several years ago, popular YouTube personality cut ties with her and reprimanded her for her “unacceptable actions.” MrBeast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, has already hired an independent investigator in hopes of “making sure” he gets the facts straight.
The accusations largely stem from events that took place on a Discord server where Tyson appeared to have direct communication with many of both her and MrBeast’s fans. Tyson apparently posted numerous inappropriate comments and “edgy jokes” on that server, and at the time had a more direct relationship with one minor in particular, named LavaGS, according to AND Rolling Stone investigation.
According to the article, LavaGSNow 20, she has a history with Tyson that goes back several years. When Tyson was in her early 20s and LavaGS was a teenager, they would regularly communicate via Discord and Twitter, often playing games and exchanging messages that included vulgar and sexual humor. Eventually, LavaGS even managed to get a job working on MrBeast’s gaming-focused channel, MrBeastGaming, through Tyson. As a production assistant for the channel, LavaGS moderated aspects of the channel, appeared in some videos, and even flew to MrBeast’s “compound” in North Carolina.
Since the allegations against Tyson were made in June by a right-wing creator and then picked up by a number of other YouTube content creators a month later, LavaGS has spoken out multiple times. He initially defended Tyson, saying, “These videos are massive lies and distortions. Ava never did anything wrong, she just made some edgy jokes. I was never taken advantage of or exploited.”
As the accusations became widespread, many Youtube AND streaming personalities have spoken out, and perhaps unsurprisingly, some people online have seized on the controversy as an opportunity to operate transphobic rhetoric against Tyson. A enormous number of the responses to both MrBeast’s and Tyson’s statements consist of posts that do not operate Tyson’s last name and claims that her identity as a trans woman played some role in her inappropriate relationship with a minor.
