Mortal Kombat 1As announced Friday at San Diego Comic-Con by developer NetherRealm Studios, the game will introduce six up-to-date characters, up-to-date story content, and the returning finishing move, Animality, over the coming year.
NetherRealm Creative Director Ed Boon was on hand at SDCC 2024 to show off the up-to-date Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath-a style add-on called Mortal Kombat 1: Reign of Khaoswhich will be available on September 24. The expansion will include the following characters:
- Cyrax
- Sector
- Noob Saibot
- Terminator T-1000 with Terminator 2: Judgment Day
- Ghostface from Scream
- Conan the Barbarian
Cyrax, Noob Saibot, and Sektor will be available when Mortal Kombat 1: Reign of Khaos starts in September. The remaining three guests will be released later on announced dates.
Cyrax and Sektor, who are cyborg ninjas, are already appearing in Mortal Kombat 1 as Kameo Fighters. But the up-to-date versions are female versions of the characters. Voice actors Enuka Okuma, Erika Ishii, and Kaiji Tang are confirmed to voice Cyrax, Sektor, and Noob Saibot. (Tang also voiced Sub-Zero/Bi-Han in MK1.)
Roger L. Jackson will reprise his role as the voice of Ghostface, and Robert Patrick will return as the voice of the T-1000 in Chaos rules.
Animalities, a finishing move introduced in Mortal Kombat 3they also return in year 2 MK1. These Fatality moves involve characters transforming into animals and killing their opponents in inventive ways. Mortal Kombat 1 SDCC panel, NetherRealm showed off a few examples of Animality: Mileena transforming into a mantis and eating an opponent, and Rain transforming into a pufferfish and then exploding her prey from the inside. Trailer Chaos rules revealed much more, with Animality moves that included a hyena, hippopotamus, gorilla, and scorpion. (I wonder who that might be?)
Mortal Kombat 1The extended story will focus on Havok’s masochistic threat and his decision to unleash chaos on the NetherRealm at the end of the game’s original story. Havok serves as The Reign of Khaosand apparently he is responsible for resurrecting Sub-Zero as Noob Saibot.
This Mortal Kombat 1: Reign of Khaos The expansion costs $49.99 on PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X. The Nintendo Switch version costs $39.99. Kombat Pack 2 will not be available as a standalone character pack, publisher Warner Bros. said in a press release.
Kombat Pack 1 included six post-launch characters Mortal Kombat 1:MK main characters: Quan Chi, Ermac and Takeda and guest characters InvincibleOmni Man, Boys‘ Homelander and DC’s Peacemaker. Six Kameo Fighters were also released as DLC, with Mavado, Ferra, Tremor, Janet Cage, and Khameleon joining as support characters.
The roster of guest characters in the Mortal Kombat series has typically been incredibly diverse, drawing on villains and antiheroes from comics, action, and horror films to flesh out its roster. The previous game in the series, Mortal Kombat 11Guest appearances include John Rambo, RoboCop, Terminator T-800, Spawn, and Joker. Previous games have featured playable characters such as Kratos from God of War, Xenomorph from Alien, and Jason Voorhees from Friday the 13th.
