Mortal Kombat 1 Khaos Reigns Story DLC Coming in September, New Guest Fighters and Pets Revealed

Published:

The long-awaited Mortal Kombat 1 story expansion, Khaos Reigns, has been revealed. The story takes place after the events of the story campaign and focuses on the invasion of the Titan Havik from an alternate reality, who wants to spread anarchy across all timelines.

The cinematic story of the expansion introduces fresh playable characters, Noob Saibot and the now female Sektor and Cyrax. These three fighters make up half of Kombat Pack 2 and will be available when the DLC releases on September 24.

In keeping with the tradition of previous games, the second half of Kombat Pack 2 features guest fighters from various films. ScreamGhostface, Terminator 2T-1000 and Conan the Barbarian are on the way, but there is no release window for their arrival. Kombat Pack 2 is bundled with Khaos Reigns and cannot be purchased as a standalone character pack.

Animality returns as a free post-launch content update for Khaos Reigns. First introduced in Mortal Kombat 3, these beastly finishing moves see fighters transform into animals to disembowel their opponents. The trailer reveals that Mileena can transform into a giant, terrifying mantis, for example, and the press release states that every playable fighter will have an Animality (which would include guest fighters born in the movie, which is an fascinating thought).

Speaking of free content, today owners will receive the MK95 Scorpion skin based on her appearance in the 1995 Mortal Kombat film.

Khaos Reigns will release digitally on September 24th on all platforms where the MK1 game is available. It will cost $49.99 on every platform except Switch, where it costs $39.99. You can read our review of the base game here.
