“After repelling the invaders who threatened Fire God Liu Kang’s New Era of Peace, Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns expands the story campaign with an all-new cinematic narrative,” the description reads. “When a dangerous threat arrives from an alternate timeline, led by the ruthless Titan Havik, whose sole mission is to throw the kingdoms into Khaos, Liu Kang must unite his champions and trust his enemies to defeat this grave threat. If they fail, the New Era will be reduced to anarchy.”
The modern storyline will be included in Kombat Pack 2, which interestingly won’t be available separately. Three returning characters will be available on day one, alongside the modern campaign: Noob Saibot, Cyrax, and Sektor. They will be joined later by guest fighters Ghostface, T-1000, and Conan the Barbarian. The latter two will feature likenesses of actors Robert Patrick and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Finally, a free-to-play update for everyone will add Animalities to the game, encompassing the entire cast of characters. “Allowing characters to transform into their spirit animal to annihilate defeated opponents, Animalities can be performed by all playable fighters and will be available in conjunction with the release of Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns,” the press release reveals.
As you can see from the trailer, these modern Animalities are particularly outrageous. How do you feel about this update? Is it enough to get you to fire up Mortal Kombat 1 again? Finish your thoughts in the comments section below.
