Capcom has released three low videos explaining Monster Hunter Wilds, the next installment in the popular monster hunting series. The videos show off the basic gameplay of the Seikret and Slinger weapons, as well as the up-to-date Focus Mode.
Let’s start with the basic mechanisms:
The video delves into the absolute basics, like how the hunter has both a holstered and drawn weapon, with the former allowing for faster movement and item usage. It also shows off Seikret, a up-to-date creature you can mount and ride around the open world. Seikret can also automatically follow a trail to reach a target monster, giving you time to heal, sharpen your weapon, and grab useful items and materials as you pass by. It also has a holster so you can swap between your primary and secondary weapons.
Then there’s the Slinger, which is the standard equipment for hunters in Monster Hunter Wilds and will replace the Wirebug from Monster Hunter Rise. It can shoot ammo collected from the environment and can grab to pull distant objects (even while riding a Seikret) or interact with certain parts of the environment. Quite handy!
Focus Mode is a up-to-date combat mechanic and technique that allows you to more precisely aim your attacks and guards. They will now be directed in the direction the camera is facing, giving you more manual control. Focus Mode will highlight wounds on monsters that you want to directly target for extra damage. It also enables Focus Strikes, which are specific special attacks.
Finally, we take a look at the Greatsword, one of many weapons coming to Monster Hunter Wilds. It’s a staple of the series, it’s on the slower, heavier end of the scale, but the weapon overview video shows how it can be used in a hit-and-run tactic, it can defend itself, and then how Focus Mode can deal massive damage.
Monster Hunter Wilds is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in 2025. Two major trailers for the game have been shown so far – you can watch them here and here – but the next one is set to release during Gamescom 2024 Opening Night Live later this month.
