The good news: Monster Hunter Wilds has a release date, so Capcom can finally stop throwing around that vague “2025” window. What’s even better: Wilds will launch on PC the same day as console, a huge debut for the series, February 28, 2025.
Simultaneous launches everywhere are nothing fresh for Capcom, but they are fresh for the Monster Hunter series. Capcom’s wording for Wilds last year suggested the company was fully committed to PC this time around, but as with Monster Hunters World and Rise , some feared PC would have to wait a bit longer to join the hunters’ ranks.
Today’s trailer premiere on PlayStation’s State of Play stream didn’t facilitate clear things up. The trailer only mentioned the PS5 release date, and accompanying blog post PS no other platforms were mentioned either. Fortunately, another version of the trailer released by Capcom brought good news. Three platforms, one date: February 28.
Capcom’s embrace of Monster Hunter on PC makes more sense if you’ve been following the series’ rise in popularity over the past few years — after 2023’s Wilds was revealed, PC fans flocked back to Monster Hunter World, helping to drive the highest concurrent player count in three years. Nine months later, World has yet to leave the most-played games charts.
PC gamers love Monster Hunter, and there’s a lot of fresh information to sift through in this trailer. This one’s more story-focused than previous looks at the Wilds, showing off the second Wilds region, Scarlet Forest. Dynamic weather will play a gigantic role in the Wilds — we got a good look at the sandstorms that can break out in the introductory Wilds region, and in contrast, the Scarlet Forest has a tropical storm that’s “devastating the environment by reducing visibility and causing increased water currents,” according to Capcom.
“As the storm ends, the sun shines through the trees in the dense forest, giving way to bright blue sky and water, while plants and creatures change…”
Don’t tell me anymore. As of today, I have a self-imposed Monster Hunter blackout until February.
